Agent Emcy || game concept

In the first half of 2025, I had the joy of working alongside Lex van den Heuvel & Femke Wijgerde on a project for our classes. We knew from the start we wanted to explore an avenue all three of us enjoyed, but hadn’t yet explored much in our own work: games. And so, inspired by some of our favourite detective games, we set to work on project: Agent Emcy.

Can you tell the difference between AI and humans? Find out in this futuristic world as you follow Agent Emcy and her AI-sidekick Leo on a quest to find an evil AI that plans to take over the world. Your only clue is that the AI is one of the nine world rulers of the Alliance; you'll have to go from there and interrogate the rulers to find out more. Don't forget to take a look around the room, you might just find some clues lying around too!

I took on various roles in this project, focusing mainly on character design, writing and programming. We each designed three of the nine leaders ourselves, and worked on the main characters together. I was in charge of the designs of Mercy, Rebecca (&Thomas) and Russell. For deep dives into my character design process, you can also check out my post about our main character, Emcy, which I worked on alongside Femke. I also did the character sketches for all the poses you see in the dialogue sprites, and I’m very happy with how much personality we were able to convey! I did a little bit of animation too, but that didn’t end up making it into the trailer or game because it looked too strange to only have one character animated and not the rest. The tragedies of time restrictions, I suppose, but that’s what it’s a concept for.

I had a lot of fun working on this project, it was a great chance to learn more about the pipeline for Unity projects, and to try my hand at a little programming. I don’t know that we’ll ever continue this project past where it is now, but perhaps we’ll pitch it here and there after our studies if we’re still motivated for it. Who knows where we’ll be in a year’s time, huh? Either way, I had a lot of fun and learned tons, so I’m more than happy ;).

You can find the trailer we made as final project down below; if you want to give the game demo a shot yourself, you can play it over on itch.io! For more concept art, check out our insta @greenmagpiegames. That’s all for now, have a good one everyone!
